Terms of Service
These terms (the “Terms”) apply when you enroll in, buy or book driving lessons or driving test services from The Hills Driving School LLC (the “School,” “we,” “us”). By registering, paying or booking, you agree to these Terms. If the student is under 18, a parent or legal guardian agrees to them on the student's behalf and is responsible for the student's account.
1. Our services
The School provides behind-the-wheel driving instruction and, where offered, driving test services, as described on our website. Lessons are 2 hours long unless a package says otherwise. We use DriveBees, a scheduling and payment platform, to run registration, booking, payments and records; the School, not DriveBees, provides the instruction.
2. Enrollment and eligibility
- Students must meet the age and permit requirements of California. A student must carry a valid learner's permit or driver's license as required by law at every lesson, and must show it when asked.
- Information given at registration must be accurate, including date of birth, contact details and any medical condition or required corrective lenses that may affect driving.
- A student under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian linked to the account, who may book, pay and receive notices.
3. Payment
- Packages are paid in full in advance, online, by card through our payment provider Stripe. The School never takes card numbers by phone.
- Prices are shown on our website at the time of purchase. Lessons and test services can be booked only after payment.
- Lessons bought for one type of car (for example SUV or electric) are used in that type of car.
4. Cancellations, late cancellations and missed lessons
- You may cancel or reschedule a lesson free of charge up to 48 hours before its start time; the lesson hours go back to your account.
- Cancelling less than 48 hours but at least 24 hours before the start carries a late-cancellation fee of $90. The hours go back to your account once the fee is paid; new bookings are paused until then.
- Cancelling less than 24 hours before the start, or not being ready at the pickup time and place (a no-show), uses up the lesson hours.
- The rules that applied when you booked a lesson are the rules for that lesson, even if the School changes its rules later.
- If the School must cancel a lesson (for example for unsafe weather, illness or a vehicle problem), the hours go back to your account at no charge.
5. How long hours last, and refunds
- Unused lesson and test hours expire 12 months after purchase.
- A package may be refunded in full if none of its hours has been booked or used. After hours have been booked or used, refunds of the remaining hours are at the School's discretion, unless the law requires otherwise.
- Refunds go back to the card used to pay, through our payment provider.
6. Driving tests
- Where the School offers driving test services, the student is responsible for booking the driving test appointment with the licensing office and for bringing all documents it requires. The School books its instructor and vehicle around that appointment.
- Use of the School's vehicle for a test is subject to the licensing office's rules and the vehicle passing its pre-test inspection. The School does not control test results or examiner decisions.
- Complimentary retests included in a package may be used only after a test that was not passed, cannot be used for regular lessons, and end when the student passes.
7. Safety and conduct
- The instructor is in charge of the vehicle and may end or refuse a lesson at any time for safety, including if the student appears impaired, is unprepared, lacks a valid permit, or behaves unsafely or disrespectfully. A lesson ended for these reasons uses up its hours.
- Students must wear any corrective lenses their permit requires, follow the instructor's directions and obey traffic laws.
- Mobile phones must be put away while the student is driving.
8. Records and messages
We keep records of bookings, hours, lesson notes and evaluations, and any certificates we issue. We send booking confirmations and reminders by email, and by text message if you agreed. Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal information.
9. Responsibility
The School maintains the insurance required for driving instruction in California. To the extent permitted by law, the School is not responsible for losses that are not caused by its negligence or breach of these Terms, and its liability for any claim about a package is limited to the amount paid for that package. Nothing in these Terms limits rights that cannot be limited under the law of California.
10. Changes and governing law
We may update these Terms for future purchases and bookings; the version in effect when you paid or booked applies to that purchase or booking. These Terms are governed by the laws of California.
